Welcome to Math Tools ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing or using our website at mathtools or our AI Chat API (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Service.
By using the Service, you confirm that you are at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) and agree to comply with these Terms. If you are under 18, you represent that you have parental or guardian consent to use the Service.
Math Tools provides free, browser-based mathematical calculators, solvers, educational tools, flashcard creators, quiz builders, and writing tools (including a grammar checker) designed to assist students in coursework ranging from Algebraic Problem Solving through AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics, as well as general academic writing. The Service includes study tools that allow you to create, store, and review flashcard decks and custom quizzes, and writing tools that check grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style.
AI Chat API: Math Tools also provides an AI Chat API that processes natural language requests and generates responses using the deepseek-r1:8b language model. The API enforces the following policies:
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. No service level agreement (SLA) or uptime guarantee is provided.
The study tools (Flashcards and Quiz Maker) allow you to create and store content locally on your device using browser local storage. You retain ownership of all content you create using these tools. We do not transmit, collect, or store your user-created flashcard decks or quizzes on any server — all data remains in your browser's local storage. You are solely responsible for backing up your content; clearing your browser data or switching devices will result in the loss of your locally stored content. We are not responsible for any loss of user-created study content.
API Keys: API keys provide access to the AI Chat API. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your API key. Do not share, commit, or expose your API key in public repositories, client-side code, or any location accessible to unauthorized parties. Any use of your API key is your responsibility, whether authorized or unauthorized. Sharing your API key terminates our confidentiality obligations regarding your account. We reserve the right to revoke API keys at any time for violations of these Terms.
Session Tokens: Session tokens issued by the Service are temporary and valid for 60 minutes from issuance. Tokens cannot be refreshed; you must request new tokens after expiration. Session tokens are specific to the authenticated domain and should not be shared.
Rate Limiting: The Service enforces rate limits to ensure fair access:
CORS & Domain Security: Requests from authorized domains (tools-for-students.com, goingcougars.org) bypass certain authentication requirements. Requests from other origins must include valid API key authentication in the Authorization header.
You agree not to:
(a) Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws; (b) attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service; (c) interfere with or disrupt the Service, servers, or networks connected to the Service; (d) use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the Service in a manner that sends more requests than a human could reasonably produce; (e) attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service; (f) use the Service to engage in academic dishonesty in violation of your school or institution's honor code; (g) attempt prompt injection, jailbreaking, or other attacks designed to compromise the AI model; (h) deliberately attempt to generate harmful, illegal, abusive, hateful, or inappropriate content; (i) share your API key publicly, commit it to version control systems, or expose it in client-side code; (j) exceed rate limits or attempt to bypass rate limiting mechanisms; (k) store and publicly redistribute AI-generated responses; or (l) use the API for commercial purposes without explicit written authorization.
While we strive to provide accurate mathematical calculations and grammar suggestions, the Service is intended as an educational aid and is not guaranteed to be error-free. Mathematical results are generated using numerical and symbolic computation methods that may have inherent limitations, including rounding errors and expression parsing constraints. The grammar checker uses rule-based pattern matching and may not catch all errors, may flag correct usage as an issue, or may suggest changes that alter your intended meaning. You should not rely solely on the Service for critical academic submissions, professional engineering calculations, published writing, or any high-stakes decisions. Always verify results independently and exercise your own judgment regarding suggested corrections.
The AI Chat API uses machine learning models to generate responses. You acknowledge and agree that:
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL MATH TOOLS, ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STATUTE, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. THIS INCLUDES, WITHOUT LIMITATION, LIABILITY FOR ANY INACCURATE, INCOMPLETE, BIASED, OR HARMFUL AI-GENERATED CONTENT.
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, advertisements served by third-party ad networks (including Google AdSense), and third-party scripts or libraries. We are not responsible for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites or services. Your interactions with third-party advertisers are solely between you and such advertisers.
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting to the Service with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms. We encourage you to review these Terms periodically.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part thereof) at any time, with or without notice, and without liability to you. This includes modifying or discontinuing the AI Chat API, changing rate limits, or discontinuing API access for individual users or API keys.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Math Tools and its owners, officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, expenses, or fees (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to your violation of these Terms or your use of the Service, including any claims arising from your use of AI-generated content.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. You agree to submit to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Deschutes County, Oregon for the resolution of any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these Terms will otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Math Tools regarding the use of the Service and supersede all prior and contemporaneous understandings, agreements, representations, and warranties.
If you have questions about these Terms of Service, please contact us through our website's contact form or by opening an issue on our GitHub repository.
